ANDREA DIAZ
2020, EL BUEN PASTOR EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
Andrea Diaz is a 2020 graduate of El Buen Pastor Episcopal School in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. After searching for universities in her home country for a year and with COVID-19 at its peak, she was fortunate to receive a full scholarship to attend Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Andrea is currently a freshman at SAU and has been actively involved in various organizations such as Chapel Scholar and Sacristan, Daughters of SAU, NABA (National Association for Black Accountants), the Global Leadership Fellow Institute, Student Organization for Uniting Latinos, and ISO (International Student Organization). She was awarded a $7k scholarship with Strada Education Network and achieved a 4.0/4.0 GPA in her Fall semester.
Andrea acknowledges the role of El Buen Pastor in shaping her into the person she is today, citing her teachers, advisors, classmates, staff, and faculty members as instrumental in her growth. In less than a year of being at SAU, she participated in various organizations, served as a Student Ambassador for the university, and collaborated with the football coach to provide tutoring for players to ensure their eligibility for the next season.
Andrea also landed her first paid internship as a freshman with State Farm for the summer and was elected as the Sophomore Class Vice-President for the academic year 2023-2024 by her classmates. Her excellent academic record continues in the current semester (Spring 2023), where she finished the midterm period with all A's.
CARLOS ALEGRÍA
2013, ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
Meet Carlos Alegria, a 2013 graduate of St. John’s Episcopal School. Carlos moved on to college where he has studied to be a dentist. His next step is to open a clinic for his neighbors in San Marco, Omoa!
Carlos offers this testament to the Episcopal Schools of Honduras-
“Something that helped me a lot since my childhood was learning a second language such as English. The truth is that school and college prepared me in an incredible way. Arriving at the University highly qualified, I had a very solid foundation in elementary physics, science, technology, history and many other areas. In addition, I was psychologically and mentally prepared for my future education. The school allowed me to grow in my personal formation because we were instilled with values that in the end, were very helpful to be able to function day by day at the University.
Episcopal schools and colleges are characterized by providing a quality education and we, as former students, can only attest to how much it has served us for our training!”
With your help, we can teach the future Carlos’s, who will build a better Honduras.
